The story about the five senses continues.
This time it is something about what we can’t see……What do you think of something that we can’t see? For example, the radiation which is harmful to the human body……because it’s invisible and we don’t know how much could be in the air, we are afraid of it. However, the air which is essential for us is invisible, too.
Also the importance of the essential utilities (electricity, water and gas) which we realized after the Great East Japan Earthquake…
As for these utilities, two out of all three are actually invisible. The gas and electricity is an invisible substance. Even for the water, when it evaporates it turns into water vapor which is invisible, too.
As for the inside of this computer (CPU and so on) which I’m using for typing this document, I can’t see it, too. What about a TV which we watch? We can’t see those people who were working to produce a TV show. Also, the radio and television radio-waves are invisible.
Least of all, we can’t see inside of the earth. We can’t see the plates of the earth which made a large movement to cause the big earthquake, too.
So, when do you think that those invisible things become visible? For example, when a typhoon comes close, the TV reception gets too fuzzy to see clearly. Or when you can’t get good reception to hear the sound clearly on the radio because something disturbs the reception in between and so on. As for the earthquake, when the ground moves we become able to feel it. Yes as you realize, when such a phenomenon actually occurs we become able to see it and we become aware of it.
As for inside our body, we usually can’t see it without using an x-ray or endoscope and so on. So when something comes up on the surface of our body (it’s same to the earth), it must be a warning sign (trying to get our attention) and it comes from the part which we usually can’t see.
I remember that the importance of the things that we can’t see was told in “The Little Prince” written by Saint-Exupery, too.
But people hardly pay attention to something which we can’t see and can’t even imagine. As for the production of various products that companies make, so many people and companies are actually involved in the process. However the process which we can’t see is usually ignored and most people only recognize the completed products. I guess, because our society tends to only focus on the result, it can’t be helped……
So what can we do to feel those things that we can’t see?
Yes, it’s to open the five senses.
By making them open, you will become able to feel something you’ve never felt before. You will become able to see something that you’ve never seen before. When you see them, you will become able to find new things. Finding new things leads you to develop them and you will become able to reflect on them with the actual scenes (reality).
“Kizuna (bond)” which a word we often use is something we can’t see and the human’s mind is invisible, too. But interestingly there is a sentence in Japanese which actually expresses something invisible. It’s a sentence to show our thankfulness - “お陰様で○○○ (okagesamade)” (お陰=shadow)
The story about the five senses will continue…..
