Although we often hear the term of Hands-on policy, how do you accept this? It’s thought of as meaning that we should focus more on the field activity and so on.
What does the Hands-on policy mean to us? For example, does it mean that we should listen to the opinions on the actual site and apply them to the product development? Yes, learning through the actual work place is very important. However how many people would actually understand this importance? Don’t they solve any problem if they can’t correctly see what’s happening at the actual work place, do they? Is there anyone who can see things correctly there……? What do we do to see things correctly……?
So, here comes the five senses back again. Opening your five senses is important for “see things correctly”
People usually seem to be seeing things correctly, but they actually aren’t. A lot of people often overlook. For example, when writing and finish a document, we usually read through it again and correct mistakes. However, there is a case that no matter how many people check it, there are still some mistakes. Even if we think that we are carefully reading it, but overlooking something can still happen. The reason is because we have a preconceived notion.
When we have it, we see things with a condition that is like we are wearing sunglasses (a filter)……For example, you believed that it was red but when you saw it without the sunglasses you found it wasn’t red. This preconceived notion is something like a human’s habit.
We often say nakute nanakuse (everybody has his faults).
Even for a person who looks perfect, he still has some sorts of faults (habits).
These habits interrupt people’s ability to see things correctly. So we become not able to judge things correctly. I think that it represents a situation such as where we tend to pay much attention to the things we are interested in but not to those that we aren’t interested in …..
It seems that we are obsessed by these things. Obsession (囚われる) is exactly a situation where the people “人” are locked in a cage “口”. It’s a situation where we have no freedom so can’t see things well.
The preconceived notion is actually very troublesome. In the case of the Great East Japan Earthquake, most people must’ve thought “Tsunami wouldn’t come this far”. As for the nuclear power plant accident, many people would believe that the damage wouldn’t be that bad. Although there were some people who predicted and pointed out how bad the damage could be, and as a result it brought a great amount of damage. The preconceived notion makes people’s sense obtuse. I don’t mean that all the people don’t always take the things serious enough, but their ability to see the things correctly might’ve been weak because of overlooking those things. However, I think that people who are called artisans seem to have a higher level of the ability of seeing things compared to normal people.
It’s important for us to be able to see things correctly…
We should be aware of our five senses and see them carefully. When we become able to see things correctly, the preconceived notion will go away. You’ll become able to observe things in a straightforward manner. When you can do it, you become able to hear them correctly, too. Of course please take the headphones off when doing this. So then, there must be something you can really become able to see from now on.
