“Nature”…are we aware of the existence of it in our daily life? As we can see from the word “自然 (nature)”, it means something which is natural. We don’t usually pay attention to nature because it’s too normal to look closely at unless something unusual happens…do we? I think, when we live in a city, nature becomes something like the air which is invisible.
So we haven’t paid much attention to nature up to now. But don’t you think that we are actually forced to pay attention to it these days? For example, there was the Great East Japan Earthquake which happened 1 year ago and the unusual heavy rain which we had from last summer to autumn. If it’s an Olympic game, we are happy to achieve a new record. But getting a new record for the natural disasters doesn’t sound right at all. It’s not happening only in Japan but all over the world, such as unusual hot summers, draught and heavy snow…It sounds serious.
It may be because the balance (order) between nature and us is becoming uneven. What’s going to happen if the situation continues? The trend of democracy is affecting all over the world, isn’t it? So if everyone wants to be rich and have cars and air conditioners, how many nuclear plants will we need in the world? Do we try growing more trees? But developing (destroying the forest) is happening a lot faster than the growth of trees… Maybe, that’s why nature has been bringing those disasters to us to protect its own ecological system.
I’ve heard of a story as following about 10 years ago.
If nature, which is something that can’t be created by humans thought, goes wrong, it’s a kind of a warning. We can’t create nature (animals and plants) as well as human’s bodies by using our thoughts. Suppose that there is a standard to judge which is right or wrong, I think that something that we can’t create with our thoughts is always right. If you get sick, it means that your way of life might’ve been wrong. If nature brings us a disaster etc, this world (civilization) might’ve been going wrong….
Also, what we can’t create with our thoughts is “love”. “Love” is “order (nature)”. “love” doesn’t leave any resentment in the original meaning… “love” and “affection” is different. “affection” generates resentment, but “love” doesn’t, because it’s not something given to something in particular. We usually misunderstand about the difference between “affection” and “love”. When someone does something bad to you, you think of revenge and have resentment, don’t you? So the cycle of hate would start. However if it’s done by nature (natural disaster etc), most of us just give up, don’t we?
Nature isn’t a part of something but is a whole of it. So we shouldn’t think of just a part of natural disaster but think of the other things, too. When those natural disasters happen, people try to cooperate with each other and cut off the cycle of hate… nature is strict on us but I believe that one day all of us will realize the fact that “love= order”…
There is another story which has been sticking out in my memory.
Even if we complain about nature, we can’t live without the earth (nature), can we? It’s usually too normal for us to pay attention to …Talking about other things, you may also complain about your boss at work or other people. However if there is no boss and no company to complain about, we will be in a trouble after all. Also we can only complain about this and that because we are healthy. What do you think about the things happening these days in which many complaints and disasters have been occuring? Is this the time when we should become aware that “love=nature”…?
