We had lots of snow this year, didn’t we? The city area was covered by the white snow and it was a silvery world…I know someone who said “snow is a letter from the sky”. How romantic it is. However, unfortunately we didn’t have that much snow around the central city area. Anyway, I think that snow can hide the dirty part of the city area. Everything, both the clean and dirty part, is covered under the snow. I would like to say that white snow is just like a heart of new born baby. But in fact, we’ve never seen what the heart of new born baby looks like though. Even if we could see it, it’s not always true that a baby’s heart is like white snow, is it? It could be already dark black when they were born…
Well, besides this , I also think that our heart is like the city with snow piled up on the surface…Snow represents a superficial consciousness (="tatemae", which means what we say and do in public) and there is a deep consciousness (=”honne", what we really feel inside) under the snow. The superficial consciousness hides the deeper part of the consciousness, doesn’t it?
What? It’s not true? You must be a great person then. Anyway, people actually have a much deeper part of their consciousness. There are various things in which we aren’t aware in this deeper part. I wonder if some people may actually be aware of them…? This deeper part of our consciousness always causes trouble. Your bad habit is one of the results, too. However if it’s a good one, it may help you. But it usually has a negative power and is very strong. Well then, I wonder how we can be aware of this deeper part of our consciousness which causes trouble.
This is actually very hard. Because we don’t learn anything about our own heart at school, it’s really hard for us to pay attention to it. Even if it’s all about our own heart, we can’t control it well. We have been controlled by this part of our consciousness whenever we face important scenes rather than controlling it.
How bothersome our heart is! It’s like rolling down a hill with increasing speed. In the case where it’s like rolling down the steep hill, it could get worse all of a sudden. Also once we started rolling down, we can’t stop it. Even if we shout out “stop it”, there is no point. Well…I can't help but sigh. I wish that we could see our heart like we were watching TV. If we can see it, we could do something at least. But we can’t do it, can we?
